Screw Conveyor

In over Thirty years the ES-type Screw Conveyor has become a synonym for cement feeding and conveying in concrete batching plants all over the world. In this period CAD has supplied more than half a million units. Today it is hardly possible to find a batching plant manufacturer anywhere in the world who would not appreciate the unrivalled technical features and quality of the ES.

About Screw Conveyor

ES Screw Conveyors & Feeders: Customized Solutions for Cement & Building Materials Handling

As a specialized, application-tailored variant of the modular TU Screw Conveyor System, ES Screw Conveyors and Feeders are engineered using high-quality carbon steel—paired with industry-grade surface treatments and durable powder coating to resist corrosion, wear, and the harsh conditions of building materials processing. Their robust structure consists of key, precision-manufactured components: a seamless tubular trough (equipped with at least one dedicated inlet and outlet spout for efficient material flow), welded flanges at each tube end to ensure airtight and leak-proof connections, and helicoid screw flighting (welded firmly onto a central pipe) with coupling bushes at both ends for stable power transmission.
To guarantee long-term operational reliability, the system includes two end bearing assemblies—each integrated with self-adjusting shaft seals to prevent material leakage and dust ingress—with one bearing assembly directly built into the drive unit for space optimization. Additionally, the number of intermediate hanger bearings is customized based on the total length of the conveyor, ensuring the screw shaft stays aligned even in extended installations. Each ES Screw Conveyor and Feeder is also fitted with a high-torque gear motor, precisely sized to match the specific conveying capacity, material density, and operational demands of the application.

Core Function: Streamlining Material Flow in Key Industries

ES Screw Conveyors and Feeders are designed primarily for the efficient conveying and metered feeding of cement, cement-like materials (such as fly ash, slag powder, and lime), and other granular/building materials. They serve as critical material-handling equipment in concrete batching plants—where precise feeding directly impacts concrete mix quality and production efficiency—but also excel in other building materials processing facilities, including dry mortar plants, cement silo systems, and precast concrete factories. By ensuring consistent, controlled material transfer, they help reduce waste, minimize downtime, and maintain stable production workflows.

Standout Features: Durability, Flexibility, and Low Maintenance

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Professional powder coating not only enhances the system’s aesthetic but also forms a tough protective layer, extending service life in dusty, humid, or material-abrasive environments.
  • Versatile Sizing Options: Available in 7 standardized outside tube diameters, allowing easy matching to different conveying capacities (from small-scale batching to large-volume production).
  • Optimized Trough Design: The outside tube comes with welded end flanges for secure assembly, plus dedicated inlets/outlets, and inspection hatches positioned beneath the first inlet and each intermediate hanger bearing—enabling quick checks and maintenance without disassembling the entire system.
  • Modular & Customizable Housing: Constructed from standardized flanged sections for easy installation and expansion, with one section custom-fabricated to fit specific on-site space or layout requirements.
  • Robust Screw Structure: Helicoid screw flighting is welded tightly to the central pipe, ensuring high load-bearing capacity and preventing flighting detachment even when handling heavy or abrasive materials.
  • Leak-Proof Sealing: End bearing assemblies with self-adjusting shaft seals effectively block dust, fine particles, and moisture from entering the bearing, reducing wear and maintenance frequency.
  • Secure Power Transmission: Splined shaft couplings ensure stable torque transfer between components, minimizing vibration and preventing shaft slippage during operation.
  • Easy Installation & Handling: Lifting eyelets on each tube section simplify on-site hoisting and positioning, saving time and labor costs during setup.
  • Reliable Drive System: Standard flange-mounted electric motors are sourced from trusted suppliers, ensuring consistent performance and easy replacement if needed.
  • Maintenance-Free Hanger Bearings: Intermediate hanger bearings are made of aluminum castings with self-lubricating slide bushes—eliminating the need for regular lubrication, reducing maintenance workload, and lowering long-term operational costs.
  • Space-Saving & Cost-Effective: Compact overall dimensions make it suitable for plants with limited space; the reduced number of components and standardized spare parts also cut down on inventory costs and replacement lead times.

    1. Type of Screw Conveyor Systems

A screw conveyor system is a mechanical conveying device that uses a rotating helical screw blade, known as a “flighting,” inside a tube or trough to move bulk materials such as cement, sand, fly ash, and aggregates. It is one of the most efficient and space-saving equipment for horizontal and inclined material transport. Screw conveyors are widely integrated into concrete batching plants, cement silos, and aggregate handling systems to ensure continuous and dust-free material transfer.

    2. Difference Between Types of Screw Conveyors

There are several types of screw conveyors based on structure and application:

    • Tubular screw conveyors are enclosed systems designed for powder or fine materials, ensuring no leakage during transport.

    • U-type (trough) screw conveyors are open-top designs suitable for semi-solid materials and easier maintenance.

    • Inclined screw conveyors allow material transport at angles up to 45°, ideal for limited space conditions.

    • Flexible screw conveyors use a spiral wire inside a flexible tube for conveying light materials over short distances.

Each type is selected based on material characteristics, installation space, and required output capacity.

    3. Application and Uses of Screw Conveyors

Screw conveyors are mainly used in construction, mining, chemical, agricultural, and cement industries. Typical applications include:

    • Transferring cement or fly ash from storage silos to weighing hoppers in concrete batching plants.

    • Feeding powder materials into mixers or packaging lines.

    • Handling grain, pellets, or minerals in agricultural or industrial processing plants.
Their simple design, low energy consumption, and enclosed operation make them ideal for modern industrial material handling systems.

    4. Main Parameters and Key Performance Indicators of Screw Conveyors

Main parameters include diameter (100–400 mm), length (up to 12 m per section), capacity (up to 100 t/h), rotation speed (20–100 rpm), and power (1.5–15 kW).
Key performance indicators include conveying efficiency, energy consumption, transport angle capability, and maintenance frequency. High-quality screw conveyors ensure uniform discharge, stable operation, and long service life even under heavy-duty continuous use.

    5. Price Factors and Typical Price Range of Screw Conveyors

The price of a screw conveyor is influenced by several factors:

    • Size and length of the conveyor

    • Material of construction (carbon steel, stainless steel, or galvanized steel)

    • Motor power and gearbox configuration

    • Design customization and automation level

Standard models typically range from USD 800 to USD 5,000, while large-capacity or stainless-steel versions for industrial plants can reach USD 10,000 or more. Customized systems with special coatings or explosion-proof motors also affect pricing.
